Key advantages of fishing in Jaco:
- Elite Fleet: Access to 28ft to 60ft custom sportfishers and luxury yachts.
- Proximity to Los Sueños: Fish the same waters as the world’s most prestigious billfish tournaments.
- Inshore Diversity: Rocky points and submerged volcanic reefs hold massive Roosterfish and Cubera Snapper.
- Convenience: Only 90 minutes from San Jose (SJO) Airport, making it perfect for day trips or week-long packages.

Offshore Fishing Charters from Jaco
Offshore is where the magic happens. The Central Pacific is world-renowned for its flat seas and incredible numbers of Sailfish and Marlin. On a full-day trip, you’ll head 20–30 miles out to the “Blue Water,” where the current breaks attract huge schools of baitfish and the predators that follow them.
Targeted Offshore Species:
Marlin: Blue, Black, and Striped Marlin are found year-round.
Sailfish: High-volume action, especially from December through April.
Yellowfin Tuna: Look for the dolphins to find these “football” sized fighters and “cows” over 200 lbs.
Dorado (Mahi-Mahi): Explosive strikes and delicious table fare, especially during the rainy season.
Inshore Fishing in Jaco & Herradura
You don’t have to go far for a trophy. The coastline surrounding Jaco is a paradise for light-tackle enthusiasts.
Roosterfish: The ultimate inshore prize, known for its iconic comb and relentless fight.
Snapper: Target massive Cubera Snapper near the rocks or Red Snapper for a fresh dinner.
Other Species: Grouper, Amberjack, and African Pompano keep the action fast and furious.
Perfect for Families: Shorter runs and calmer waters make inshore trips ideal for kids and beginners.
Best Time for Jaco Fishing
Peak Billfish Season: December – April (The “Dry Season” offers the most consistent bite).
Marlin: Available year-round, with strong pulses from May to October.
Tuna & Mahi: Consistent throughout the year, peaking with the rains.
Inshore: Roosterfish and Snapper are residents and can be caught 365 days a year.
