In the North Pacific, Playa Flamingo, with a full-service marina, is the important fishing center, but also charter boats out of the nearby Playa del Coco, Tamarindo, Ocotal, Potrero, Brasilito, and some intermediate points.

Costa Rica, Rain Forest Tours A little further south, boats are operating below Cabo Blanco, Nosara, Garza, Samara, and Playa Carrillo. This region receives more protection from the winds that normally blow from late December to March and in April.
In the Central Pacific, October is usually the favorite month for Marlin, but the action is also good in September and November, and occasional blues and rare blacks are likely to be found any time of year.

Mid-December to late April, when they begin to move north-has the best season for sailfish, but the big schools often move in about October and occasionally stay longer. Some sails always show among the catch from June through September, mixed with other species found near the coast during these months.
In the South Pacific, August to December is the peak season for Marlin, but an occasional striped, blue, or black can be taken in any month if the water temperature is up.
A few sailfish can be removed in the year, with the best fishing from December to March. Often slows from April to early June, rises again, and peaks in August and September.

Sport Fishing in South Pacific Area

(Cape Blanco to the Gulf of Papagayo)

Marlin – Every month of the year, with mid-November to early March exceptional.
Sailfish – Caught throughout the year, usually May and August high season.
Tuna – Peak months are probably August through October
Dorado – More commonly known as “dolphin”, are most abundant from late May through
October, when seasonal rains flood the rivers.

South Pacific Area
(Cabo Blanco to Drake Bay)

Marlin – October is typically the highest month, but the action is also good in September and November.
Sailfish – mid-December to late April.
Tuna – Found throughout the year but most abundant from June to September.
Gold – Best action begins with the winter rains that start in late May.

South Pacific Area
(Golfito and Playa Zancudo)

Marlin – August through December is peak season.
Sailfish – A few taken with the discount all year round with the best fishing from December to March.
Tuna – The best fishing for yellowfin tuna corresponds to the needle and sailfish season.
Dorado – The best races are traditionally from late May to October.

CARIBBEAN COAST – Sport Fishing along the Caribbean coast can vary more than overnight from month to month. When you can go out to the blue waters of the Atlantic, the blue marlin sailfish and occasional Atlantic most any time of year. Most are caught from February through September.
