When to fish in the area!
Dorado, also known as Mahi-Mahi, can be caught year-round in Costa Rica, with peak seasons running from May through September and again from mid-October to December. The strongest bite typically aligns with Costa Rica’s lush green season (May to September), when rains fuel nutrient-rich waters and attract schools of baitfish—perfect conditions for Dorado action offshore.
Wahoo aren’t as common as other pelagic species in Costa Rica, but they’re a prized surprise when they strike. Anglers have the best chance of hooking one between May and October, especially while trolling offshore for sailfish or dorado.
